The Alhambra Shopping Centre in Barnsley are hosting the 8th annual charity golf day and inviting local businesses, contractors and golf lovers a like to join them raising funds for two fantastic causes. The open-air fundraiser, due to take place on Friday July 15th, will see teams of four compete for the Alhambra Golf Day trophy at Sandhill Golf Club.

The day will be teeing off at 10.00am and will conclude with a presentation of prizes and an opportunity to take away some fantastic goodies from our raffle table.

The last event in 2021, raised £5,000, bringing the total raised over the past seven years to a staggering £26,031 for deserving local and national charities.

The chosen local charity for 2022 is Yorkshire Air Ambulance Service, an independent charity providing a lifesaving rapid response emergency service to 5 million people across the whole of Yorkshire.

Vicky Bowden, Regional Fundraising Manager for Yorkshire Air Ambulance charity said “It may surprise you to know that the Yorkshire Air Ambulance Charity relies on the generosity of individuals and organisations to help save lives across Yorkshire. To keep both of Yorkshire’s air ambulances maintained and, in the air, we need to raise £12,000 per day, this is equivalent to £4.4 million per year.“

“Every penny raised goes a long way to achieving this target and we are so thankful to the Alhambra Shopping Centre for choosing to raise as much as they can for us.”

The other charity benefitting from the fundraising efforts is Prostate Cancer UK, the UK’s largest men’s health charity who work towards one goal: ensuring they put men at the centre of everything they do. Prostate cancer exists in every golf club. One man dies every 45 minutes, the same time it takes to play three holes of golf, but it doesn’t need to be this way.

Nicola Tallett, Director of Fundraising & Supporter Engagement at Prostate Cancer UK, said: “Prostate cancer is now the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the UK and the Covid-19 pandemic has made living with a diagnosis only harder. Thankfully, the support of Alhambra Shopping Centre and so many other wonderfully generous people has allowed us to continue funding research into better tests and treatments, to stop prostate cancer being a killer.”

Dave Probyn, Alhambra Centre Manager said “Our Golf Day is a fantastic day enjoyed by all. Many of the competing teams have been supporting us since our very first Golf Day in 2014 and return year on year supporting our fundraising efforts.”

“We have some big prizes planned for anyone that may be lucky enough to sink a hole in one, but more importantly it is an opportunity to get out in the fresh air with colleagues helping to raise important funds for two very worthy causes.”

Registration for the Alhambra Centre Golf Day is £180 per team of four (£45 per person) and that includes a bacon butty at the start followed by pie & pea supper. If you’re not a golfer don’t worry as businesses can also flag their support by sponsoring a hole for £250.
